Football team selection trial
ITANAGAR, Dec 23: A selection trial will be held at Rajiv Gandhi stadium, Naharlagun on December 26 to select the state football team for the ensuing 69th Santosh Trophy to be held in Assam from January 10, 2015.
The players will be selected by a team of committee constituted by Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA).
NIS trained coach Kipa Bharat and T Wangja were appointed as the Team Coach and Assistant Coach of the state team. They have been shouldered the responsibility considering their good performance in the recently held National Level North East Sports Competition, where Arunachal Pradesh football team finished third, according an APFA release.

PPA advocates NE ownership of Look East Policy
ITANAGAR, Dec 23: If the North East States have to stop depending on Central grants and generate its own resources, the North East States' ownership of the Look East Policy, hitherto missing, has to be aggressively pursued without letting it remain just as paper exercise, said PPA in a statement.

SDHDC questioned
ITANAGAR, Dec 23: The people of Kaying and Payum circles residing in Capital Complex have questioned the stand of Siang District Headquarter Demand Committee (SDHDC) of Kaying and Payum circles.
The committee must have been formed without taking the consent of the people of both the circles, it said in its release.

NNSPSU allege negligence by teachers
ITANAGAR, Dec 23: The Nyapin Nyobia Sangram Phassang Students' Union (NNSPSU) has called for holding the salary of political science, economics and geography STs posted at Govt Higher Secondary Schools Nyapin and Sangram alleging negligence in duty.
In its complaint letter written to the Director, School Education, it claimed that the academic syllabus was lagging behind as the concern teachers are yet to join the institutions.
Every year, the students of both the schools hardly pass with good marks and they face problem in getting admission to higher studies and they lack basic knowledge in these subjects.
Further asking to serve them show cause notice, it warned that it would launch democratic movement if the demands are not fulfilled.

ITANAGAR, Dec 23: Apatani Youth Association, Ziro has called for enhancement of security at Central Bank of India, Canara Bank, Apex Bank Hapoli and Apex Bank Old Ziro. In a letter to the SP, Lower Subansiri, AYA president Taku Chatung said that these banks are functioning without security. He said that everybody should be able to carry out their works without worrying about security.
ACS concerned over Govt.’s ‘financial crisis’
ITANAGAR, Dec 23: Arunachal Civil Society (ACS) has expressed concern over the reported financial crisis of the state and urged the Chief Minister to immediately prepare the Annual Operational Plan (AOP).
Saying that the AOP was supposed to be prepared during the tenure of the former Chief Minister, ACS urged the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to intervene in the matter for 'President's Rule' if the state government was not in a position to overcome the reported financial crisis at all.
The report of financial crisis came into light when the ACS had contacted various HoDs, who have reportedly revealed that the state had been facing financial crisis since last two years, an ACS release said.
"Even many departments are still unable to release salary of its employees."

ITANAGAR, Dec 23: The All Tirap, Changlang, Lohit and Longding Students' Union Itanagar has urged for establishing the proposed state nursing college in one of the suitable places of Tirap, Changlang, Namsai(Lohit) and Longding districts. It has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
For decades different PSUs have been undertaking projects related to Oil, petroleum and coal etc, in undivided Tirap belt but without any visible social responsibilities towards the natives of the region. The repeated negligence and irresponsible attitudes of these PSUs and the state government has hurt the sentiments of the local populace, it said in its memo.

After the horrendous Daporijo Police Station MMS scandal that rocked the state in 2011, yet again, an explicit video clip has emerged from the same town, forcing people to come out on the street in protest. In 2009, the police officers forced a teenage boy and a girl to have sex in the station while they took the video. The video emerged almost two years later. The sheer atrocity and unimaginable act of the law keepers inside a police station shocked the state. Records say that the main accused in Police Station MMS case was never caught.
This time, the person behind the video clip is allegedly an ITBP personnel posted in remote Limeking circle. As the details are unfolding, the latest report says that the girl is underage. The personnel should have known better that it is a crime to indulge in such an act with a teenage girl who legitimately could not have given her consent. It remains to be seen what course law will take but in the meantime, the only way we can help is by stopping the circulation of the video.

In the meantime, the time has come for the state government to strengthen the State Women's Commission. Instead of making political appointments in the Commission as a gift to party workers or relatives of the political bigwigs, it is important to appoint those who truly are sympathetic to the cause of women and have a fair idea about their welfare. The state government is yet to form the next Commission even after passage of more than two months since the last one demitted office. The reason for the delay is cited to be financial. There is no reason why a Commission dedicated to the welfare of women should bear the brunt of financial woes of the state.

The issue that came to the fore was the poor performance of students in the previous year's CBSE exams. Another issue discussed was the overcrowding of classrooms. Each class has an average of 98 students per teacher, which is higher than the prescribed norm of 35:1 student teacher ratio.
"If we want the prescribed norms of student teacher ratio to be fulfilled then we are faced with shortages of classrooms and qualified teachers," said one teacher. "However, due to work burden in government higher secondary school, teachers don't want to be posted here, though they may prefer posting at Roing."
To ease the overcrowding of students at the lone higher secondary school, the Parliamentary Secretary informed that proposal for upgradation of government middle school, Roing and government secondary school, Mayu to secondary school and higher secondary level has been forwarded.
Another issue discussed was the illegal encroachment of lands in school compound and teachers quarters. In reply, the Parliamentary Secretary said district administration is trying to stop all illegal encroachment despite having to face public ire due to which sometimes the motivation level gets low. However, necessary measures are being taken up, he assured.
Further, on request from the school administration, the Parliamentary Secretary assured to provide a photocopy machine for school office funds under his disposal.
Speaking on limitations in using MLALAD funds, the Parliamentary Secretary informed that works like 'repair and maintenance works' are not covered under MLALAD, so requests for such work remains unfulfilled. "However, we have submitted proposal for new teacher's quarters and construction of a new school auditorium under Mukut Mithi's MPLAD funds will begin soon."
On meeting basic requirements for school hostels, the Parliamentary Secretary assured to provide a water tank for boy's hostel to meet water shortage. Request was also made for a hostel gate, solar street lamps, and drainage channel for girl's hostel.

Interesting results
The Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir assembly election result has thrown up interesting
results. For the first time in its year of existence, the Jharkhand will have a stable
government. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with its ally All Jharkhand Students
Union will form the next government in the state. BJP and AJSU are winning 42 seats,
one more than the required majority of 41. The party did not name any Chief Ministerial
candidate during election and it will be interesting to see who gets the prestigious
post. Traditionally tribal representative occupies the post of CM, but, BJP might
make a non-
BJP received setback in Jammu & Kashmir, where its mission 44 failed as PDP emerged as the largest party. Party drew blank in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region. The 25 seats it won came from the predominantly Hindu populated Jammu region. The result is big setback for BJP because Prime Minister Narendra Modi had extensively campaigned in the valley which includes a high voltage rally in Srinagar. The result still portrays BJP as predominantly Hindu party as it failed to win any seats in the valley. Some attribute this to the series of controversies generated by Sangh Parivar member which has scared the minority community. In a way this is a lesson for BJP which has maintained stoic silence over communally sensitive statements given by Sangh Parivar member.

Give youth an opportunity
Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent speeches of his various spiels with the motif of “make in India” and employment generation seemingly do not strike a chord with youngsters in Arunachal. This is understandable because tragically we are only the 2, 3rd or even first generation to come out and taste the 21st century competitions.
And the employment scenario is all pervasive; one cannot help but sadly empathies with the youths of the state. To add salt to the ailing wound the state’s highest and honoured body that employs the top brain for administrations, The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) confirmed the worst fears of this handful of hardworking youth in the grip of severe deceit it is not finished here yet but it also seems that the government is blissful at fixing this problem immediately.
And here let me first expose the inanity of the so called employment exchange argument
which seemingly suggests that unemployment in Arunachal is one of the lowest in the
nation. The job Melas did gave some respite to some youth willing to work outside
at mere pay-
Let me expose you some more arena of giving a chance to the youths. Out of many examples I wanted to give this categorically since all youths at this age are wired and depends on the internet. Just go around the websites of all departments of Arunachal Pradesh and attachments they give. They are straight away scanned and Xeroxed copy of the printed copy and is uploaded to get it down. At least a decent pdf. File cannot be uploaded. At this helm do we have short of some computer experts, programmers or at least someone that can maintain the website along? Leave along the other flaws.

On a article that I read in some website reports of terrorists activities in Punjab during the late 1970’s situation, eminent author Khuswant Singh had written that decreasing returns from agriculture after the peaks of the Green Revolution, land fragmentation and the government’s incapabilities to create fresh jobs were the reasons behind many frustrated youngsters joining the ignoble cause of the secessionists and terrorists in the 1980’s. Over these days we see now and then a status relating to the APPSCE in the social media and this need to be pondered and looked into Toto by our incumbent recruitment board.
I for one always believe that by their very nature, youths are optimistic, full of energy and willing to work hard. Give them opportunity and they will put up a dazzling performances. But if they find their efforts frustrated for no faults of theirs, their innate energy manifests in more unfortunate violent forms. Remember the Arab Spring that started on December 17, 2010 when 26 year old Mohammed Bouazizi set himself on fire in protest against the confiscation of his livelihood and humiliation by government officials of Tunisia.
I know for sure we are peace loving people and shall not resort to any such violent acts. But we have every justifiable reason of resentment and anger over our inactive government in solving our problems and therefore present Government have lost our trusts. Its Young Arunachal appeal that we are desperate to contribute to the betterment of Arunachal Pradesh and be a part of India’s onward march. But we lack opportunity. If you can’t provide atleast provide them with an enabling environment. This is the least they deserve from their Chief Minister.

Accept the good things in all religions
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to express my disagreement with Tani Thomas Tallong on certain points in his letter published on the 21st of December 2014 titled "Truth cannot be killed".
Being proud of indigenous culture doesn't mean one is "backward, uncivilized and
deprived of the blessings of God." He states that Christianity has kept people away
from "drinking habit, stopping the system of taking revenge, inter tribal feuds,
quarrels and ‘kata-
I won't take credit away from Christianity, which has in fact helped the state in
many ways. It gave a sense of need of education to the people, it certainly teaches
drinking and violence is not good. These are things I, personally, like about Christianity.
But that doesn't mean all Christians are non-
Second, I take great offence when he says "deprived of the blessings of the god." What does he mean here by that? The adherents of indigenous faith are certainly blessed by their god who has bestowed upon them this great land which has nurtured us all since time immemorial.
We also have no problem with him saying he hasn't changed his faith but merely choose
a path to salvation. As I said, it is his choice as to which path he chooses, as
all path ultimately lead to salvation. But what I found offensive was his pointing
out that only his god is real and his faith is the only way. He also says only Lord
Jesus atoned the sins of mankind. May I remind him, Lord Buddha gave up his all and
preached non-
His remark is in utter bad taste. He forgets that for other people their faith is the only and real way forward, which means all faiths are the way to salvation. Christianity, is but one of the world religions. It is no way supreme or better than other religions. All religions are equal as they ultimately teach us to be moral and love each other.
There was a time when faith was a personal choice and we should let it be that way. We should not be preachy. Let a person decide his faith and let us not go out of way to demonize indigenous faith or Christianity or Hinduism or any other faith. I sincerely request him and all those who think like him, be from any religion....to broaden their viewpoints and accept the good things in all religions, only then we can have real peace in the society.
